Rescue Me ID: 17-03-05-00183Jake (male)

Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

JAKE is an 8 year old Retriever/Great Pyr mix male who is bonded with 5 year old Great Pyr mix female Baby Girl. We are seeking a home where they can be adopted and stay together. We feel a home with a fenced yard would be best so that they can safely run and play together when outside. These two dogs ran together for years out in the country in NW TN and both may have been hit by cars in the past. A person concerned for their safety was finally able to get them into rescue and they are now in a foster home. Their foster says they are both very sweet and gentle and obviously look out for each other. They have been around children 8 ... (Read More)years and older and have done great. We feel they would also do well with younger kids because of their gentle nature. They live beside a school and calmly watch each day as the children come and go. Jake weighs around 58 pounds but he may gain some weight now that he is getting regular meals. He has been vetted, vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. Jake has not had an easy life. He has some scars and had to have some teeth extracted due to some broken and chipped teeth. He tested positive for heartworms and is currently undergoing the treatment needed to rid him of heartworm. He will complete that treatment in March and will be ready for adoption at that time. Jake is on the shy side, but gains confidence daily. He seems to enjoy learning and liked shaking paws with his foster the first day he arrived. He is house trained. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Jake and Baby Girl if it means they will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion. The adoption fee will help our 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer rescue to cover at least part of the cost of the veterinary care this dog has received. Fee will be reduced for adopting the bonded pair. (Less)

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, I want to meet you. My name is Murphy and I am a Golden Retriever/Nova Scotia Duck Toller mix; about 2 yrs old and just came to Tennessee. Nice place as far as I can tell but what I am really looking for is a family to call my own. I am what you call a 'free spirit' because everything I see interests me and I want to check it out. OK, that means I am not the best on a leash but with patience and practice I know I could do better. I just want to please you. I would love a yard to play in and maybe another another dog to pal around with; playing is important to me so my buddy will have to be able to do that too. I am a very high active ... They say I am house trained, whatever that means but I think it is a good thing. Oh yes, I love kids but more in the 8 on up range cause I want to run and play all the time. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Golden Retriever in Tennessee
Golden Retriever Dogs can make good pets in Tennessee if they match your IifestyIe. The Golden Retriever is a gundog that loves the water. Originally bred for hunting, Goldens make wonderful family pets. Golden Retrievers are very sweet, patient, gentle, and excellent with children. Goldens are eager to please and respond very well to obedience training. Goldens make good watchdogs but are far too friendly with everyone, from strangers to other dogs, to be used as guard dogs. Goldens need human companionship. They can get into trouble if neglected. This breed is suitable for homes with yards, and needs plenty of brisk daily exercise.
