'Chewy' aka Chewbacca: has been a loyal family pet since a puppy, he is a healthy 9yo. He was part of a first litter and I'm unable to surrender him back to the breeder b/c I cannot locate them (a prof from my college). He loves people, but in recent years has become aggressive to other dogs. (He was neutered late at age 6?) The aggression seems to be specific to small dogs and he has fatally harmed 2. He is obedient with myself and spouse, but not so much with my kids or others (as in 'come' 'drop' etc.) Both altercations with other dogs happened when he was under my in-law's care. I don't know if he became ultra-protective or why he acted with such aggression and did not respond to commands from them. He has never hunted, maybe this was a hunting instinct? We don't have any other pets and since the incident we have simply avoided interacting with other dogs. I am sure with the right 'pack leader' he would do well. He is trainable and truly has NO other behavior issues. I must be honest and admit that we cannot adjust to his needs. Neither my husband or myself can be consistent enough to train him as much as we would like to. We both work full-time opposite schedules and I am at grad-school part-time. My 4 children are school-age and in various activities. He loves going for car rides, and when the weather allows - he comes along. BUT it's the variety of settings that would pose such a great risk, so I don't think we have the best environment anymore. I am unable to surrender him to the Golden Rescue group due to his bite history (as disclosed it is with other dogs - not people). A liability release would have to be signed if he is rescued - otherwise I may need to euthanize him. I am happy to discuss his history further - please act promptly if able to help. My Homeowners insurance (State Farm) has issued a non-renew due to his history so I must find a home for him by April. (Less)

Golden Retriever Dogs can make good pets in Minnesota if they match your IifestyIe. The Golden Retriever is a gundog that loves the water. Originally bred for hunting, Goldens make wonderful family pets. Golden Retrievers are very sweet, patient, gentle, and excellent with children. Goldens are eager to please and respond very well to obedience training. Goldens make good watchdogs but are far too friendly with everyone, from strangers to other dogs, to be used as guard dogs. Goldens need human companionship. They can get into trouble if neglected. This breed is suitable for homes with yards, and needs plenty of brisk daily exercise.
