Golden Retriever    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

11 month old wonderful golden retriever who loves to swim, play with his friends and cuddle. He can guard his food a little as he growled a tad when we did his food assessment so families with teenagers and adults with experience are preferred.

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-24-00486Doodles (male)

Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

5 year old neutered male Golden Retriever/Labrador Retriever mix [60 pounds] Doodles is a very people-sociable, lovable, cuddly dog who adores playing and spending time with people... Preferably leaning on them. Doodles is equally enamored with toys and makes regular attempts to steal any loose ones lying about to add to his collection. He arrived here needing surgery for a small-ball toy he loved a little too much and ate so larger, tougher toys are in order for this funny fellow. CHILDREN: No known history; dog-savvy children over 10 years possible. DOGS: Dog Selective. Can be tense around other dogs -- especially males -- so will do best ... (Read More)as an only dog. CATS: We have no known cat history on Doodles but he was intensely focused on trying to access the cats during his assessment so a no-cat home would be best. HOUSETRAINING: TRAINING NEEDS: Doodles has been a really enjoyable and easy dog in all ways here in terms of his people sociability and biddability. Staff describe him as 'such a DOLL!'. A positive-reinforcement based 'Basic Manners' class is not required but would be a terrific way to help bond and develop a common language with his new family. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-24-00483Oscar (male)

Golden Retriever    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

3 year old neutered male Golden Retriever [74 pounds] Oscar is another of our gorgeous Goldens from Turkey who can not wait to go home with a forever family. This dear boy is a generally easy-going and goofy guy who loves to go on walks and explore. Not surprisingly, after having to scavenge on the streets to find enough food to survive, Oscar will growl if you try to take away his food so will need help learning to relax around resources (see 'Special Needs' below). During this part of the assessment, Oscar mouthed a Staff person's shoe when they used it to move a toy away from him -- heartbreakingly, our Turkish Coordinator reminded us ... (Read More)that it is not uncommon for the strays in Turkey to be kicked by people and he is the second dog we have seen who can worry about people's feet being intentionally moved towards him. We will be providing a free Behavior Consultation to help an Adopter learn the behavior modification methods to help Oscar become more relaxed about people around his resources. CHILDREN: No history with children; adult only home preferred. DOGS: Dog social but can be rude (humps) so will likely need carefully structured opportunities to learn more polished social skills from calm, stable, friendly adult dogs. Given his guarding, an only dog placement is preferred but a training experienced home with another dog will be considered on a case by case basis. CATS: No history; can provide cat assessment for strong adoption candidate. HOUSETRAINING: Oscar has been very clean in his kennel here. All adopters should expect to patiently and positively teach a rehomed dog good housetraining habits in their new home. SPECIAL NEEDS: Oscar will need help to learn how to be relaxed about having the things he values taken away from him and we will provide a free Behavior Consultation to his Adopter to ensure a successful start. All interested Applicants should review this handout for a brief overview of the prevention and positive reinforcement required (Less)

Golden Retriever    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Dominic is an adorable 6 year old golden who loves to play with his friend Max. They are so adorable together. Rescue Me ID: 16-07-24-00477Kaingsley (female)

Golden Retriever    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

2 year old spayed female Golden Retriever [72 pounds] Kaingsley is another of our Turkish transport dogs who is extremely sweet, sensitive and LOVES petting (especially belly rubs). Staff have been charmed by how playful and cuddly she can be and are excited to see her added to the website. Kaingsley will do best in an adult home that can help her get more comfortable about giving up high value resources (she growled over our taking away a pig ear -- no surprise after scrounging on her own that she would be reluctant to give up that goodie!) and gently build her confidence and self-control through positive reinforcement training. CHILDREN: ... (Read More)No history with children; teenaged children may be an option if able to follow training to help her get comfortable with having high value items removed. DOGS: Awk-ward. Kaingsley is a bit lacking in social skills and can become over stimulated and behave rudely (jumping on and/or humping) when meeting dogs. Calm, socially stable and respectful dogs a possibility and can be considered on a case by case basis but an only dog home is likely best. Not a good candidate for dog parks; may develop more social skills with gradual exposure and training. CATS: No history; can provide cat assessment for strong adoption candidate. HOUSETRAINING: Doing very well in kennel here but after being on the street for some time an adopter should expect to provide gentle reinforcement to help Kaingsley learn to reliably potty outdoors. TRAINING NEEDS: While there are no class requirements for Kaingsly, the best adopter for her would be somebody committed to learning positive reinforcement techniques to help her become an even more terrific companion and get calmer around other dogs. Rescue Me ID: 16-07-24-00471Hemingway (male)

Golden Retriever    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

2.5 year old neutered male Golden Retriever [64 pounds] Hemingway is a very playful boy. He may be a little shy at first, but given some time he'll warm up quickly (and most likely make you laugh often as he does here when we watch him joyfully tossing his toys around to entertain himself). Given the high prey drive he exhibited while in foster, we believe a home with a physical fenced yard would be best. Hemingway would likely enjoy searching and tracking activities in his new home. He is very intelligent and would love an adopter who appreciated channeling that clever brain into fun training games. CHILDREN: Hemingway does not have known ... (Read More)history of experiences with children. Given his shyness, a home with teens may be best. DOGS: Hemingway is dog selective. He did well and was calm meeting a female during his assessment but did growl quickly at an overly exuberant male. He may do well with a calmer, respectful female in his new home. CATS: No known history. Given his high prey drive and a known history of chasing squirrels, he may do best in a home with no cats. HOUSETRAINING: Hemingway has not had any accidents in his kennel since he's been with us. His foster home said he did have a relapse in his training when they added a young untrained puppy so an adopter should be prepared to help Hemingway be successful. SPECIAL NEEDS: Hemingway has allergies and is currently on Apoquel. He also has entropian and may need surgery. TRAINING NEEDS: We will not require Hemingway to have training, but it may be a good idea to help build a common language. Since he's so smart, he may really enjoy positive reinforcement classes. Rescue Me ID: 16-07-24-00466Tommy (male)

Golden Retriever    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

2 year old neutered male Golden Retriever [70 pounds] Tommy is another gorgeous Turkish heartbreaker... both literally and figuratively. This impossibly sweet young boy came from a known abusive situation in Turkey yet still engagingly solicits human affection despite his initial worry and appeasement behaviors (like groveling over to you). Given how sensitive Tommy is, he is not a candidate for electronic fencing. A physically fenced yard is strongly preferred to ensure he has amply opportunities to relax with his family in a quiet/private yard as he gets settled in and comfortable in his new life. Tommy loves his walks and especially ... (Read More)enjoys laying upside down being pet. For HOURS. He has the best coat for petting so it's extra fun for us! :-) CHILDREN: Tommy was fostered with 10 and 14 year old children and enjoyed them but will likely do best in a quieter adult-only home with less traffic. DOGS: Tommy has been very flirty with one of the female dogs here and shows some interest in other dogs but is initially shy and can be easily overwhelmed. He may do well with another gentle, sensitive dog, but is not a good candidate for being exposed to lots of strange/loose dogs. CATS: Lived with cats in his foster home (see adorable kitten picture!) and likely will do well in a new home. HOUSETRAINING: Was reliable in foster home and has only had 1 accident here in the kennel. TRAINING NEEDS: A prospective adopter should be gentle, patient and experienced with and/or prepared to learn about stressed dog body language and positive reinforcement training techniques to gradually condition Tommy to make more positive associations with new people. A great resource is 'The Cautious Canine' by Patricia McConnell. Eventually, a positive reinforcement based manners class would be a lovely way for Tommy and his new Adopters to bond and learn a common language. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-24-00463Charlie (female)

Golden Retriever    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

~7 month old intact (neuter pending*) male Golden Retriever [45 pounds (and growing)] Charlie is an adorable, affectionate, playful guy who is guaranteed to put a smile on everybody who sees him! Staff find him intelligent and a quick learner as well as a very fun and funny little guy. All dogs have their charms and challenges and, in Charlie's case he got an extra heaping serving of charm! His main challenge is that he got tense, growled and snapped 1x when we were assessing his willingness to let us take away delicious food, a high value chewy and toys. Possessiveness is not an unusual behavior in dogs, can be over-represented in a shelter ... (Read More)environment and is particularly understandable from dogs who have had as much deprivation and upheaval as this poor puppy has experienced. Per 'Special Needs' below, we will be providing a free Behavior Consultation to ensure Charlie's adopters have the tools they need to help the little guy become more relaxed about sharing his resources. Wonderfully people-sociable and dog-friendly, Charlie is going to be a wonderful dog in a home committed to helping this bright little guy succeed! . CHILDREN: No history with children; adult only home preferred. DOGS: Dog social and playful (albeit a bit boisterous) and will likely love having lots of doggy friends but will need an Adopter to make sure no food/toys are about that could elicit guarding. As such, an only dog placement is preferred but a training experienced home with another dog will be considered on a case by case basis. CATS: No history; can provide cat assessment for strong adoption candidate. HOUSETRAINING: Only 1-2 accidents since he arrived and those were due to an upset tummy. Very impressive! All adopters should expect to patiently and positively teach a rehommed dog good housetraining habits in their new home. SPECIAL NEEDS: Charlie will need help to learn how to be relaxed about having the things he values taken away from him and we will provide a free Behavior Consultation to his Adopter to ensure a successful start. All interested Applicants should review this handout for a brief overview of the prevention and positive reinforcement required: http://www.centerforshelterdogs.com/Portals/0/CSD SA Handout-POSSESSIVE BEHAVIOR.pdf TRAINING NEEDS: A positive reinforcement (preferably clicker training) 'Basic Manners' type class will be required to ensure Charlie gets off to the best start possible. Rescue Me ID: 16-07-24-00459Logan (female)

Golden Retriever    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

~8-9 month old spayed female Golden Retriever [43 pounds (for now!)] Logan2 (the '2' is to avoid confusion with our awesome elder Logan) has been described by Staff as 'the easiest dog in the kennel' right now and she is certainly one of the sweetest! She is a snuggly, cuddly, sweet and sensitive little girl who will shine as a wonderful family companion in any gentle household able and willing to continue her terrific start with clicker training here. CHILDREN: No history with children; gentle children 10 years and up should be terrific, exceptions for younger children may be considered on a case by case basis. DOGS: Dog social but still ... (Read More)learning more polished skills. Logan2 has thoroughly enjoyed meeting and playing with Charlie (young intact male) and seems generally friendly with the dogs she passes. There was a little overarousal and a quick growl when she met another young female but it was not clear which girl growled and Logan2 was a little forward so will need more opportunities to learn good social skills from stable, friendly adult dogs in a controlled setting. CATS: No history; can provide cat assessment for strong adoption candidate. HOUSETRAINING: Doing very (and surprisingly!) well given her age and lack of training. As with all rehomed dogs, an adopter should expect to provide gentle reinforcement to help their new dog learn to reliably potty outdoors. TRAINING NEEDS: A positive reinforcement (preferably clicker training) 'Basic Manners' type class will be required to ensure Logan2 gets off to the best start possible. (Less)

Golden Retriever    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Almost 2 year old spayed female Golden Retriever [58 pounds] Jessica utterly charmed everybody in her assessment -- including the dogs! We are not sure what made us smile more, her rubbing her body against everybody like an overgrown kitten or her love of toys or her trying to lead around both dogs by their leashes while bowing and bouncing. SPECIAL NEEDS: This very sweet and very special little girl is going to need an equally special home given her mild heart enlargement and a leak in her mitral valve. We have consulted with a veterinary cardiologist who examined Jessica and after reviewing her cardiac ultrasound advised we start her on ... (Read More)medication and perform a 6 month recheck (which YGRR will cover) to determine long term implications. CHILDREN: No history with children; 10 years and older may be an option. DOGS: Dog social! Jessica loved meeting and playing with Bear and Aurora during her assessment. She can be a little relentless pulling on their leashes, but it was all fun and playful. CATS: No history; can provide cat assessment for strong adoption candidate. HOUSETRAINING: Doing very well in kennel here. (Less)

Max is an adorable goldenretriever who just loves to play and swim. In fact he is a fish:) When we first got hm, he did used to growl when we got close to his food but has tremendously improved. We do want people who want to adopt him to be aware however as stress or change can bring it back up so he may require some additional training. He is otherwise just a happy pup who just wants to play and have fun. We call him Polo Bear

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-18-00495Rusty (female)

Golden Retriever    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

1.5 year old neutered male Golden Retriever [64 pounds] It seems fitting that our pictures of Rusty all have balls in them since this sweet and silly boy bounced (through no fault of his own) in and out of several different homes before landing here. Given as a well-intentionned but misguided gift as a puppy to a relative with a serious medical issue, poor Rusty's normal puppy training and exercise needs simply could not be met by the (again, well-meaning) people who really did want him but weren't prepared for a healthy, bright and busy young boy. Given the lack of stability and absence of consistent positive reinforcement training, Rusty ... (Read More)can be overly exuberant with people and dogs and a little frantic trying to figure out how to interact appropriately. Rusty enjoyed a brief visit with kind potential adopters who provided us with additional information and we are adding crate training to his regime here as well as considering medication to help Rusty be less stressed. He is doing TERRIFIC with his training here at YGRR and was just introduced to (and loves!) our in-ground swimming pool! He has become a favorite for his ability to sit at every door to 'say please' and (ironically) typically is the dog who looks the best-trained when visitors tour the kennel. Rusty will blossom into a *wonderful* family member with adopters who are committed to taking him to positive reinforcement based training classes and providing him with consistently kind teaching plus fun exercise, reassuring structure and (of course) loads of love. CHILDREN: Older children due to his size and (friendly) lack of impulse control. DOGS: LOVES to play but lacks finesse so will need some structured and supervised play sessions to develop better self-control. CATS: Maybe dog-savvy cats. Lived briefly with 1 cat who he chased but owner felt Rusty was trying to play. HOUSETRAINING: Last home said nearly 90% reliable but all the bouncing and now kenneling will necessitate remedial housetraining. TRAINING: Will need and enjoy a positive-reinforcement based 'Basic Manners' class. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-17-00151HOPE (female)

Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

1.5 year old spayed female Hound mix [48 pounds] Hope is a super sweet girl who seeks reassuring hugs from her friends often and endearingly. (As you can see from the pictures of her napping at our last Staff meeting and video of her with Staff member, Lindsay.) It can take her a few minutes to get brave enough to make new people her friends, but once she does blossom she adores cuddling and is a very dear and companionable girl. Hope was part of our pilot program of accepting mixed breed dogs from overcrowded Southern shelters so we don't have a history on her as she was listed as a stray but she quickly won over everybody who handled her ... (Read More)and was a natural to join the very sweet dogs here. Given how long this dear dog has been here, we are having her spend time as an 'office dog' and she is LOVING getting to quietly hang out on her dog bed while she 'supervises' (which looks a bit like napping) as Sherryl processes applications. CHILDREN: Calm, quiet, patient older children a possibility. DOGS: Dog Selective. Hope has enjoyed playing with some of our younger male dogs but can be worried and tense around some strange dogs. She will likely do best as an only dog. CATS: No known history with cats. Showed mild interest to a pushy, head-butting young cat on her assessment. HOUSETRAINING: Making progress here; will need remedial housetraining in a new home. SPECIAL NEEDS: Ideal home will read and implement the techniques outlined 'The Cautious Canine' (http://www.patriciamcconnell.com/store/The-Cautious-Canine.html). Hope also gets car sick and can be very worried about and avoid riding in a car so gentle 'counter conditioning' will be needed to help her improve. TRAINING NEEDS: Learning new cues and tricks through positive reinforcement will help Hope become braver and more secure in how the world works which will make her and her adopter's lives together that much more fun. Rescue Me ID: 16-07-17-00150Barley (male)

Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

9.5 year old neutered male Golden/Labrador Retriever mix [69 pounds] This poor boy had one heck of a rough start and has been here a very long time getting physically and behaviorally healthy. Barley came to us as a Southern transport whose owner was moving and could not take him. He was in rough physical shape and came in heartworm positive with an infected scrotal ablation from a neuter surgery and both ears actively infected and extremely painful. His owner history portrayed a mellow dog who would greet visitors with a lick, did not guard his food and had only growled when having his painful ears cleaned but loved brushing. Unfortunately ... (Read More)the combination of the stress of losing his home, being transported and his several physical challenges caused Barley to behave very differently here at the shelter than he was described in his home. Thankfully for this dear dog, YGRR was willing to invest in his medical and behavioral health. His scrotal infection has long since cleared, his ears are clean and healthy and he currently shows no signs of allergies, He completed his second and final heartworm treatment on 4/22/16 and should just need a recheck in October. The handling, stranger and guarding issues Barley was presenting with have all improved dramatically thanks to the behavior modification efforts of Staff and our wonderful Behavior Director. Barley has truly touched the hearts of all the Staff here. He is a sweet, mellow boy who likes to be pet and enjoys all the gentle affection he receives. Don't let our references of mellow fool you, Barley has been known to rip it up outside with his silly antics as he joyfully plays with toys and indulgies in adorable 'zoomies'. He loves to play fetch and has a soft spot for squeaky toys! Barley is looking for a patient, compassionate and experienced home that will continue the training support we have provided here. CHILDREN: Adults only. DOGS: Best as only dog; possibly could live with/enjoy the company of a calm female. Barley is not a candidate for dog parks or doggy daycare. CATS: No known history; can provide a cat assessment for a strong adoption candidate. HOUSETRAINING: Has been 100% perfect in his kennel here! SPECIAL NEEDS: Completed heartworm treatment on 4/22/16 and will be on restricted activity (no racing around but calm walks OK) until 7/22/16. Will need a heartworm recheck in Oct 2016. TRAINING NEEDS: YGRR will provide a free pre-adoption Behavior Consult to help an adopter continue the behavior modification support which has helped Barley to thrive. ADOPTION FEE: $300. (Less)

Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

3 year old spayed female Golden Retriever/Borzoi mix [66 pounds] Ava is a strikingly attractive, joyful and energetic girl who has made us smile often here at YGRR with her prancing exuberance and overall love of life. Ava is receiving regular training with our wonderful Behavior Director and is making steady progress on learning to be calm in her greetings. We will be posting video of her progress regularly but in the meantime included a video of her playing with a Staff friend. She was terrific taking a turn as an 'office dog' and was fantastic being crated during the day if we were busy and quiet as a mouse in her crate at night. Lovely ... (Read More)girl! We were all so impressed with her *exemplary* manners during our 6/25 Turkish Education event. She quietly sat and smiled as )50 strangers toured our kennel (and nearly all of them fed her cookies to help reinforce those pretty manners). Most recently lucky Ava has been on 'Foster-Cation' with our wonderful Volunteer, Pam, who describes Ava's visit so far: 'Ava has been wonderful. She has settled in beautifully. She is affectionate, curious, seems very comfortable in a home setting - ok with common noises, activities - coffee grinder, maker, toilets flushing, music, TV, phones ringing, sweeping floors, dishwasher loading, unloading...hard to believe that she may not a history of being in a home before??? My husband, who has tolerated my bringing shelter fosters home for various periods of time, said that, except for her exuberant jumping when he come's into the room or house, he can't understand why no one has adopted her. He says that she is a really good dog!!! He doesn't readily complement any dog I've had here.' It is hard to believe that Ava has been with us for a full year and we are hoping it is because she was meant to wait for a wonderful home who was meant to have this beautiful sweet girl... Maybe that is YOUR lucky home? ;-D CHILDREN: Teenagers able to follow training guidelines are a possibility. DOGS: Best as only dog; possibly could enjoy the company of a calm male* but a bit too much of a 'princess' to want to share her space with other girls. * Ava is particularly partial to the senior fellows and has charmed us by helping with dog assessments here when we have some older fellows to consider. CATS: Probably yes! No known history but during our assessment Ava was interested in investigating the cats but not relentlessly trying to access them. Would likely do well with some positive reinforcement (cookies!) for ignoring cats. HOUSETRAINING: 100% perfect in her kennel here the last several months and during her week as an office-dog! SPECIAL NEEDS: Provided her heartworm recheck in July 2016 is clear, Ava is a healthy, happy girl very ready to love a new life with a real family. TRAINING NEEDS: A free Behavior Consultation with our Director will be provided to ensure Ava and her adoptive family get off to a terrific start! ADOPTION FEE: $500. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-17-00144Doodles (male)

Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

(Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-17-00100Royce (male)

Golden Retriever    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

8 month old neutered male Golden Retriever [51 pounds] Royce is a handsome and happy young guy that was rescued from Turkey and is adjusting to his new life in the states. He is a bright and beautiful boy who is eager to find a family to learn with and love. Royce enjoyed a 2+ week 'foster-cation' in the home of one of our Volunteer CareGivers (Charles) and was a rockstar! Charles, wrote that Royce was a wonderful houseguest who settled in quickly, enjoyed playing with the family and playing with toys (preferably with a person), had lovely manners (no begging, minimal attempts to get on furniture), was food motivated and easy to train. Royce ... (Read More)was lovely out in public and friendly to people without jumping on them. We are so hoping somebody soon will adopt this beautiful boy and invest a bit more time and training into helping smooth out his rough edge of over-reacting to other dogs. Videos will be loaded soon! CHILDREN: No known history; dog-savvy children over 10 years possible. DOGS: Dog Selective. Royce can become overly excited/frustrated and bark and pull when he sees another dog. He has the potential to be a sociable dog in a home who can provide him with some gentle training that helps him remain calm around other dogs. CATS: Probably not. No known history and was barking and attempting to pursue during his assessment here. HOUSETRAINING: Royce had only 1 housetraining accident on his 1st day in foster when he wasn't sure about how to let folks know he needed to go outside. After that he was perfect for the remainder of his stay. TRAINING NEEDS: Royce is very easy to manage and fun to train and would love to learn more through positive reinforcement based classes. He will likely need a special class to help him get more calm and relaxed around strange dogs. We will be happy to help you locate that class and will provide a free Behavior Consult to his adopter to help them help Royce get more comfortable with other dogs. (Less)

Animal ID: TC000021Ice (female)

Golden Retriever    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

3 year old spayed female Golden Retriever [55 pounds] Ice is a very sweet and friendly girl whose guardian angel was working overtime the day her Turkish foster found the poor banged-up baby. When found, Ice was limping badly and x-rays showed a repair had been attempted for a broken leg but the pin inserted was too big and was in danger of breaking through the skin. Further x-rays revealed surgical wire also in her elbow. Her Turkish foster had the oversized pin removed and spent weeks caring for (and falling in love with) Ice. It just about broke her heart to send Ice to the U.S. but she knows Ice will be able to find a wonderful home ... (Read More)better equipped to ensure she receives all the loving care she so deserves. CHILDREN: Adult only home given Ice's history as a stray and need for training to be more relaxed around resources (see below). DOGS: Ice has been loose and waggy meeting new dogs provided they are calm and respectful. Given her injuries, she is very understandably intolerant of and ill-suited for bouncy or boisterous interactions with other dogs. CATS: No history given being a stray in Turkey. A cat assessment can be arranged for a strong adoption candidate. HOUSETRAINING: Doing very well in her kennel here! SPECIAL NEEDS: The orthopedic surgeon has advised no further intervention is currently needed for Ice's damaged hind leg and elbow. An adopter should be prepared to provide regular gentle and moderate exercise to ensure Ice is best able to compensate for her injuries. Physical therapy (especially swimming) may be very beneficial for her long-term comfort and mobility. TRAINING NEEDS: During her assessment, Ice growled when we attempted to remove her bowl of food, she also growled and gave a quick snap (no contact) when we attempted to remove a high-value chewy. All potential adopters must first read the handout at the link below to ensure they will be able to follow the guidelines and behavior modification required to ensure Ice becomes more relaxed around resources she values: http://www.centerforshelterdogs.com/Portals/0/CSD SA Handout-POSSESSIVE BEHAVIOR.pdf Ice is a generally lovely, easy dog to be with but would certainly enjoy a positive-reinforcement class to learn a common language and develop a stronger bond with her new family. Animal ID: TC000016Tommy (male)

Golden Retriever    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

(Less)

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

2 year old neutered male Golden Retriever [66 pounds] Timothy is another of the super people-sociable beautiful dogs that were rescued from Turkey. His energy level is high and he is (exuberantly!) awaiting a new home who will exercise and play with him to his heart's content. (And also teach him that it's fun to relax, too!) Timothy loves to play with toys, especially stuffies, and enjoys a good belly rub when he's gotten a chance to burn off some of his bouncy energy. PIease Read Before Adopting a Golden Retriever in Massachusetts
Golden Retriever Dogs can make good pets in Massachusetts if they match your IifestyIe. The Golden Retriever is a gundog that loves the water. Originally bred for hunting, Goldens make wonderful family pets. Golden Retrievers are very sweet, patient, gentle, and excellent with children. Goldens are eager to please and respond very well to obedience training. Goldens make good watchdogs but are far too friendly with everyone, from strangers to other dogs, to be used as guard dogs. Goldens need human companionship. They can get into trouble if neglected. This breed is suitable for homes with yards, and needs plenty of brisk daily exercise.
