Animal ID: 2974Roberto (male)

Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Roberto or Bert A 2 year old Golden Retriever mix 60 lbs. neutered male fully vetted. Roberto is a bit nervous when he meets new people but gets over it quite quickly. He is very loving and forms bonds quickly. He is in a home with 3 extra large male dogs and also around 3 extra large female dogs. He does go to work at a grooming shop and meets many other dogs. He sometimes is a bit unsure but calms down quick and really isn't a fighter. He must have had to stand his own before coming here, but really wants to let his guard down. There has been no fights and he loves to play and walks great on an easy walker harness! he is also in a home ... (Read More)with 2 young kids an eight year old and an eleven year old. he was a bit protective of his food with the other dogs but in a week he has already stopped that. He is very smart and willing to learn fast. He just wants to know where he belongs and be loved. He will make a great dog for someone that will just give her a little direction and love. All dogs need a little time to adjust in a new home, but he just wants a forever home so he can have that chance to adjust. He rides well in a car and loves to go swimming. I have been able to leave him home alone free with the other dogs for hours at a time and no accidents and no destruction. He is also crate trained and he might do better with another dog but will be good on his own. I don't know but he might have a bit of separation anxiety if he is on his own until he knows he is settled. I am not sure on that but he just wants love so much that might be a possibility. He has been fine here and I have felt no need to crate him. Overall he is a sweet dog and will possibly need someone who has had a dog before and won't think to much into his first greet. he just need a secure owner that just gives him a little direction, which doesn't take much at all! Don't want to put anyone off but trying to give as information as possible. he is a great dog! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Golden Retriever in Illinois
Golden Retriever Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Golden Retriever is a gundog that loves the water. Originally bred for hunting, Goldens make wonderful family pets. Golden Retrievers are very sweet, patient, gentle, and excellent with children. Goldens are eager to please and respond very well to obedience training. Goldens make good watchdogs but are far too friendly with everyone, from strangers to other dogs, to be used as guard dogs. Goldens need human companionship. They can get into trouble if neglected. This breed is suitable for homes with yards, and needs plenty of brisk daily exercise.
