Rescue Me ID: 18-05-27-00099Kota (female)

Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

Kota is a five year old mixed breed female dog. We adopted her as a puppy and have worked hard to gain her trust and love. She has always been very skiddish and standoffish. It took her many months to come around with my husband. She has a big fear of men. We believe she was abused as a small puppy. She is losing sight in her left eye. Since having a child, her unpredictability is no longer acceptable as she's become aggressive multiple times not only with our child, but our other dogs as well. With this unpredictability, we have no option but to rehome her to give her the best shot at life because we can no longer take the risk of her ... (Read More)nature around our child and other dogs. She's extremely easy, loving and likes to just lay around all day. She would be best suited in a home where she is the only animal and a home that does not have small children present. We are asking a fee to ensure she goes to a great home. She is completely vetted over the last 5 years and is current on everything as of this year. We would love to see her either with a retired couple or an older couple due to the ease of her. She would do well in apartments or any home as she is fairly lazy. She would be content laying around all day with love from her owner. She is a big snuggle bug. We feel we have provided a wonderful life for her and it has been a very hard decision to come to, however we feel it is necessary and urgent. Please contact me to meet her so we can find out if you are the right home for our Kota bug. (Less)

Annie is an adorable Golden Retriever/Lab mix , friendly, sweet, smart, crate trained, comes when she's called, and walks nicely on a leash. Annie is good with kids aged ten and older and can be dog selective. She has a tendency to be bossy with other dogs and wants to be an alpha. It just depends on the dog. Very interested in cats and barks at new people. She just needs a structure, set boundaries and a lot of love. Rescue Me ID: 18-01-28-00082Cooper (male)

Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Cooper has a sponsor who cares and has subsidized his fee to $25. Cooper is the oldest dog in our shelter at 9 years of age. He can often be seen in his kennel lying on his cot with a look of resignation on his face that comes from knowing that visitors will walk past him. He seems to know that none of those visitors are there for him. Since Cooper first came to us 2 years ago in Jan 2016, he has had 3 adoptions. When initially relinquished, he had unique needs that were not revealed. As a result he had 2 placements that were not the right fit. We learned that he does not like children and also that he was possessive of food and some items ... (Read More)and would aggressively protect them. He finally struck gold midway into 2016 when he went to live with a retired gentleman who hired a trainer and worked extensively at lowering Cooper's fears and reactive behaviors. It was a love match and Cooper was over the moon happy. Cooper's world came crashing down a year in ago in Feb 2017 when unavoidable circumstances resulted in the addition of an adult daughter and her child to the household. Cooper's reaction to children was unchanged and he was returned. He was devastated at both the loss of his new life and a return to shelter living. A thorough vet evaluation followed his return and Cooper was put on medication to calm his anxieties and help him to endure the wait for another chance at happiness. We have seen great improvement in his issues with possessiveness. He is sweet and loving with adults and is very fond of his caretakers. He revels in their attention and is happy to have their companionship. Cooper has the features of 3 breeds; golden border collie, Nova Scotia Duck Toller and Golden Retriever. He was house trained when returned a year ago. He is leash trained and responds to sit and lay down. He will not be adopted into a home with children or with cats. He does not like cats. He has been in the play yards with other dogs and he is indifferent to them. A fenced yard already in place is required to adopt Cooper. He is neutered, fully vaccinated and tested free of heart worms. Additional photos (most are from his last adoptive home) and a video are on his FB post at: https://www.facebook.com/smithgallhumanesociety/photos/a.872311996146401.1073741862.548822128495391/1815684928475765/?type=3&theater . Application can be submitted online at our website: https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/dog-adoption-application/ or at the shelter. Adoption policies/application procedures are detailed on our website under All Adoptable Animals. Adoption of all dogs/cats requires an approval process to ensure that they are going into a home suitable for their needs and committed to their care and safety. Each is placed with same due diligence that they would be given if they were our own furry family members. Adopters who are not within the local area of the shelter MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. Meeting approved adopters is one of the final steps in the adoption process. We do not permit transport or shipping of our residents without the adopter in attendance. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter which provides quality care, spay/neuter-all vaccines, deworming, vet exam, standard disease testing and for dogs-monthly heart worm prevention treatment. Rescue Me ID: 17-10-07-00161Riley (male)

Golden Retriever    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Riley is a 2-3 year old golden retriever. We believe he is purebred as we can't figure out anything else he could be mixed with. He does have some different distinguishing darker colors on his face which add to his character. This boy is such a love. Friendly to everyone he meets and other dogs. He came into the shelter looking very neglected and underweight. He was extremely scared and wouldn't let anyone near him. He has totally blossomed with food and love and looks like a different dog after a good grooming appointment. Riley is fully vetted. UTD on shots, neutered, microchipped and HW negative. On flea and tick prevention. We ... (Read More)offer a 2 week trial adoption period on all of our adoptable dogs to in-state adopters.
